City Of Parks

Within the city limits of McPherson, outdoor recreation takes many forms

From the four city blocks set aside for parks in McPherson’s original town site to the more recent acquisition of Tall Grass Park in the Turkey Creek Subdivision, the McPherson park system encompasses 200 acres in multiple locations.

At 60 acres,Wall Bicentennial Park is the city’s largest park. It is bisected by the four-acre Mingenback Lake, which is stocked with trout in the winter and channel catfish in the summer. Among the park’s amenities are tennis courts, handball courts, a baseball field, softball diamonds, picnic shelters, play equipment, a skate park, exercise trails and restrooms.

The municipally-owned Turkey Creek Golf Course stretches from the southern end of Wall Park to Iron Horse Road. For more information about the 18-hole course, call 620-241-8530 or Visit the course’s website: www.golfturkeycreek. com.

Lakeside Park, created out of floodprone land acquired by the City of McPherson in 1934, encompasses nearly 50 acres along the Dry Turkey Creek. Among its main attractions are wildlife – swans, ducks, geese, squirrels, beavers and the occasional deer, fox or coyote – and the adjacent McPherson Water Park.

As a summer entertainment venue, the McPherson Water Park, 511 N. Lakeside Dr., meets and exceeds the expectations of swimmers of all ages. Among its many features are a zerodepth entry area, a 500-foot lazy river, a children’s water-play area and a giant water slide.
